If you hope to go anywhere in life or develop yourself in any way, you can only step forward from where you are standing.  If you don't really know where you are, you have no idea of where you are going.

This is where meditation comes in.

Our minds are typically thinking about a past even or what the future could be.  This means we never experience the present moment, so life can very easily pass us by.

We often get lost in these thoughts (or images) which can subconsciously carry us off on a negative journey.  

Meditation is about exploring our rising thoughts & images in our mind without judging ourselves. 

Thoughts are like little dictators of the mind - go here, go there, do this, do that.  It's extremely useful to get a clear picture of these thoughts so you are less likely to repeat negative patterns. 

We can’t change every little thing that happens to us in life, but we can change the way that we experience it.   That’s the potential of meditation, of mindfulness. You don’t have to burn any incense, and you definitely don’t have to sit crossed legged on the floor All you need to do is to take 10 mins a day to step back; to familiarise yourself with the present moment so that you get to experience a greater sense of focus, calm and clarity in your life.

If you want to change your holding patterns you need to begin to observe them.

Subconscious thoughts often cloud our ability to make the right choices in life and when we become mindful of our thoughts we realize that they are just thoughts with no real power at all.

In meditation, the effort is not to stop thinking but to become aware of thoughts and images as they manifest.  

Think of it this way: if the input remains the same, the output has to remain the same. How, then, can you ever create anything new?
